- Guessing meaning in context
- Scan for specific information to do tasks
3. Language:
- Vocabulary concerning the hobbies such as: keep fish, fish tank, accomplish, collect stamps, guitarist, accompany, modest, avid, discarded, indulge in, keep one’s occupied,.
- Grammar: revise the present simple.
4. Attitudes:
- Be aware of the hobbies and feel interested in reading about the hobbies.

PROCEDURE TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES Class organization (1 minnutes) T begins the class with some common greetings by saying: “Good morning, class. How are you keeping today?” T checks the attendance: “The monitor, who is absent today?” Ss greet T by answering T’questions Class: 11A7 Total: 40 Absence: Check up: No New lesson: Warm up (5 minutes): List all the things people often do in their free time. Hobbies T divides class into 4 groups T asks Ss to work in groups to list all the things people do in the free time in 3 minutes T asks them to write down their answers on the board. T checks and gives answer. Collecting stamps, reading books, listening to music, going shopping, going fishing, watching TV, playing chess, playing games, swimming, singing,... Lead in: “So, all the activities are called ‘Hobbies’. Today we will study reading about Hobbies to find out which hobby the author refers to”. Unit 13: HOBBIES A – Reading T asks Ss to open their book page 146. Pay attention Work in groups to discuss. State the ideas (some, others listen, compare, add and correct) Go to board write the answer. Listen to the teacher. Pay attention and take notes. Pre – Reading (9 minutes): Discussion: What are the names of the hobbies described in the pictures? 1 2 3 4 5 T asks Ss to work in pairs and give the names of some hobbies. Have Ss give answers. T checks and gives feedback T provides some new words Vocabulary: accomplished (adj) = talented (adj): tài năng guitarist (n): người chơi đàn ghi-ta accompany (v): đệm đàn admire (v): ngưỡng mộ modest (adj): vừa phải, khiêm tốn avid (adj): thèm thuồng, khao khát discard (v) = throw away (v): bỏ, vứt bỏ indulge in (v): say mê occupied (adj): bận rộn T reads each word 2 times and ask Ss to repeat it. T instructs Ss some strategies to do task 1: + read through the sentences provided in the task to identify the part of speech of the word to fill in the blank. + read the words in the box and identify the part of speech, + go back to the passage to locate and read around these words to choose the suitable words to fill the blanks. T asks Ss to work pairs to do the task. Go around and help when necessary. T asks Ss to exchange their answers with a friend. T calls on some Ss to read their answers in front of class. T gives feedback and corrects answers. Task 2: Answer the questions. T gets Ss to go back to the text and read it a second time. T reminds them of some helpful tips for scanning the text. + skim the 9 questions to understand them. + underline the key words to decide what information they need to find in the text. + read around these words to find the answers. The common ones he usually gives away to others or if no one wants them he simply throws them away. (line 5-7, paragraph 4) Post – Reading: (4 minutes) Talk about your hobby. Role-play: Ask your friend about his/her hobbies. Ask him/her the following questions: 1. What is your favorite hobby? 2. Where do you usually _____? 3. When do you usually________? 4. Why do you enjoy ______? T gets Ss to work in pair to do the role-play. Go around observing and helping when necessary. T calls on some pairs to present their work. Give comments. Work in pairs to do the role- play. Show their work (others listen, compare, add and correct) Listen to the teacher Homework (1 minute) Asks Ss to learn by heart vocabulary. Asks Ss to do all the task again. Asks Ss to prepare the next lesson. Listen to teacher and take notes. V.
