I. OBJECTIVES:

1. Knowledge:

 By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Read and understand the given information

- Write a paragraph using the given information

- Use these structures correctly and appropriately

2. Skills:

- To help improve and develop integrated skill

3. Language:

- Vocabulary: upgrade, widen, equip, promote, advertise, recruit, hold

- Structure:

* Conjunctions

* Present simple and future tenses

* Passive voice and Active voice

4. Attitudes:

- Be aware of the Asian Games and feel interested in writing preparations for the coming Asian Games.

II. TIME: 45 minutes

III. TEACHING AIDS

1. Teacher:

- Teaching aids: textbook, lesson plan, computer, powerpoint, chalk.

- Teaching method: Communicative language teaching.

2. Students:

- Textbook.

- Reading new lesson and looking up new words before going to class.

T shows some pictures related to the preparation for Asian Games and asks them:
“What are these?”

“To go to the details, today we are going to write a paragraph to describe the preparations for the Games”

Pre – Writing (8 minutes):
Vocabulary:
T asks Ss to pay attention to the table in textbook, page 143.
T asks Ss “Have any new words?”
T gives and explains new words:
+ upgrade (v): cải thiện, nâng cấp
+ widen (v): mở rộng
+ equip (v): trang bị
+ promote (v): đẩy mạnh, khuyến khích
+ advertise (v): quảng cáo, quảng bá
+ recruit (v): tuyển dụng, chiêu mộ
T asks Ss write down the new words into their notebook.
T asks Ss to listen one time then repeat.
Invites some ss read louly these words.
Move to activity 1: 
Activity 1: 
T asks Ss to look at the table in the textbook page 143.
T asks some Ss to translate this table into Vietnamese.
T checks and gives feedback.

Activity 2: Writing sentences:
T asks Ss to use the verbs in the bracket to write these sentences.
Lets Ss work in 6 groups into 5 minutes
T walks around to control and give support if needed.
T calls one Ss into each group go to board to write down their answers.
T checks and gives correct answer
Activity 3: Writing a paragaph:
Suppose Vietnam is going to host the coming Asian Games. Writing a paragraph of 120 words to describe the preparations for the Games, using the completed sentences in the activity 2.
T gives the outline for writing for Ss
“Outline for writing have 3 parts:
Topic sentences: Introduce the main idea.
“To prepare for the coming Asian Games, we have a lot of things to do...”
Supporting sentences:
We will.....
We have to....
We need to be....
It is necessary to...
Concluding sentences: Give final comment on the topic.
“I think that good preparation will make our Asian Games a great success.”
T asks Ss about the conjunctions they may use:
First/ Firstly/ First of all...; Second/ Secondly/....; And...; Next/ Then...; One more thing is that....; Finally/ Lastly....
T asks and lets Ss review the tense they will use:
Using the simple present and simple future tenses
T lets Ss work in pairs into 7 minutes to write a paragraph about the preparations for the Asian Games.
“Now I would like you and your pairs to use vocabulary and grammar points mentioned before to write a paragraph about the preparations for the Asian Games”.
T walks around to control and give support if needed.
T calls out some Ss go to board write their answers.
T checks and gives feedback.

Suggested answer:
1. It is necessary to build one more National Stadium, some sports building and car parks.
2. We have to widen the training areas and roads to sports buildings.
3. We have to equip the hotels and guest houses with modern facilities.
4. It is necessary to promote and advertise the preparations for the Asian Games on the radio and TV.
5. We need to recruit volunteers to serve the Games.
6. We have to hold a competition to choose an official song.

Work in pairs to do this activity

Suggested answer:
To prepare for the coming Asian Games, we have a lot of things to do.
First of all, we will build one more National Stadium and some sports buildings and car parks. The National sports Centres and local stadiums are not in good condition, so they need to be immediately upgraded. And we will widen the training areas, the roads and the sports buildings. Then we will have to equip all the hotels and guest houses with modern facilities to welcome foreign athletes and visitors. These hotels should also have special services for disable athletes. It is necessary to promote and advertise all the preparations for the Asian Games on the radio and TV.
Finally, we need to recruit volunteers to serve the Games - These people should be university teachers and students with good English. One more important thing is that we will have to hold a competition to choose an official song for welcoming the Asian Games.

Presentation: Talk about their writing
