I. OBJECTIVE:
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Get to know the topic of unit 10
+ Vocabulary: words and phrases related to healthy lifestyle and longevity.
+ Pronunciation: fall-rise intonation on statements and questions
+ Grammar: conditional sentences and to-infinitives/gerunds in reported speech
2. Skills:
- Improve SS’ reading, listening and speaking skills.
3. Attitude:
- Have right attitude toward learning, have responsible attitude toward their schoolwork.
- Be aware of the things that helps to live long and healthy.
4. Competence:
- Develop the skills of working in pairs and groups as well as time management ability.
II. MATERIAL NEEDED
1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, references, CDs, CD player.
2. Students: Students’ books, learning tools, drafting paper and/or extra board, marker

OBJECTIVE: 1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Get to know the topic of unit 10 + Vocabulary: words and phrases related to healthy lifestyle and longevity. + Pronunciation: fall-rise intonation on statements and questions + Grammar: conditional sentences and to-infinitives/gerunds in reported speech 2. Skills: - Improve SS’ reading, listening and speaking skills. 3. Warm up: (5 m) Goal: Lead Ss to the topic of the lesson. - Ask Ss to read and tick to what should and shouldn’t do to stay healthy. Activities Do’s Don’ts Eat vegetables Drink water Eat red meat Do exercises Stay up late Smoke and drink Practice yoga and T’ai chi Eat fast food Work out Do meditation * Suggested answers: + Do’s: 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 10 + Don’ts: 3, 5, 8 + Lead-in: The lesson objectives is getting to know the topic lifestyle and longevity, some vocabulary related to the topic, and the two grammar points such as conditional sentences and to-infinitives / gerunds in reported speech. Teacher’s activities Students’ activities ACTIVITY 1: Kim is asking Mark about a TV health show she missed. Listen and read. (12 m) * Aims: Introduce the topic “How to stay healthy” and provide SS some vocabulary related to the topic. - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to a conversation between Kim and Max. - Preteach some unfamiliar words in the conversation. + relieve /ri’li:v/ (v): làm dịu, xoa dịu + immune systems: hệ miễn dịch + life expectancy (n): tuổi thọ + remedy /ˈrem.ə.di/ (n):phương thức chữa trị + Prescription /prɪˈskrɪp.ʃən/ (n): + acupuncture /ˈæk.jə.pʌŋk.tʃər/(n): châm cứu - Help Ss to know the meaning and practise reading the vocabulary fluently. - Play the recording. Have Ss listen and read the conversation silently. - Ask Ss to look at the visual diagram illustrating the four principles of staying healthy. Explain that each image represents a principle. - Check Ss’ answers as a class. - Pay attention to the T to know what have to do. - Note down the new words. - Try to get the meaning and practise reading the words corectly. - Listen and read the conversation in individually. - Pair works to dicuss and illustrate the four principles of staying healthy. -> 4 principles: Eating healthy food, exercising regularly, trying natural remedies, relieving stress. ACTIVITY 2: Read the conversation again. Find the verbs that go with the following nouns. (8 m) * Aims: This activity focuses on collocations related to health and lifestyles. - Ask Ss to read the conversation again and find the verbs that go with the nouns or noun phrases. - Let Ss compare answers in pairs or groups. - Call Ss to go to the board and write down their answers. - Go over the answers and require SS to remember all the phrases. - Work individually then compare the answers in groups of the table. 1. _relieve___stress 2. _weaken___ your immune system 3. __practise____meditation 4. _insrease __your life expectancy 5. __do_a workout 6. __practise___yoga and t’ai chi 7. __take__prescription medicine - Stamp on mind the collocations and make sentences with them. ACTIVITY 3: Complete the following notes on Dr. Quan’s four principles to stay healthy. (10 m) *Aims: This activity focuses on comprehension of the conversation. - Have Ss read the incomplete notes and find the words in the conversation to fill the gaps. - Remind them to use the correct word forms. - Let Ss compare answers in pairs or groups. - Check Ss’ answers as a class. - Work individually to find the answers then check them with friends’. * Key 1. .relieving stress 2. .we practice meditation 3 eating healthy food 4 .developing heart diseases 5 exercising regularly 6 ..sports; yoga and t’ai chi 7 ..natural remedies; take prescription medicine - Make sure the correct answers. ACTIVITY 4: Ask Ss to work in pairs. Ask and answer the questions. (8 m) * Aims: have Ss to discuss the 4 principles of how to live healthy and give their own choices. - Have Ss recall Dr Quan’s four principles and discuss the questions. - Invite some pairs to report their discussioto the rest of the class. - Give feed back. - Pair work asking and answering the questions. *Suggested answers: 1. The first principle is relieving stress. The second one is to consuming healthy food. The third one is exercising regularly 2. Yes. I agree with these principles -Listen to the other ideas to have best options to apply to stay healthy. 3. Consolidation and homework a. Consolidation: (1m) - Retell some main points of the lesson as mentioned at the lead-in . b. Homework: (1m) - Learn by heart the given vocabulary, especially the collocations in activity 2. - Do Activity 5: Find all the examples of reported speech in the conversation. - Prepare the next lesson Unit 10: Language.
