I. OBJECTIVE:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- write a short brochure introducing an ASEAN member state.

- identify the meaning of words depending on the context

- know about the cooperation and solidarity among ASEAN countries.

2. Skills:

- Develop writing’s skills

- Help Ss develop the skill of working in pairs and groups

3. Attitude:

 - respect ASEAN countries and their diverse cultures

 - Serious, positive, proactive, independent to take part in group activities.

 - Showing passion & excitement in studying

 - Cultivate morality, love people, and love their homeland

4. Competence:

- Self-study ability

- Problem-solving ability

- Presentation capacity and reporting

II. MATERIAL NEEDED

1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, cassette player, disc.

2. Students: Students’ books, learning tools, drafting paper and/or extra board, marker

UNIT 5: BEING PART OF ASEAN
PERIOD 47: LESSON 6: WRITING
I. OBJECTIVE:
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 
- write a short brochure introducing an ASEAN member state.
- identify the meaning of words depending on the context
- know about the cooperation and solidarity among ASEAN countries.

III. PROCEDURE: 
1. Warmup: (3m)
Goal: Lead in the lesson
Tasks: Listing
Method: Work in groups
- Ask Ss to Show some beautiful spots in Viet Nam
Ask Ss to call the names of the beautiful spots
 * Key: 1 Halong Bay, 2. Da lat , 3. Ha noi , 4. Sa pa, 5. Mui ne, 6. Hoi an
* Lead in : Besides beautiful sights like Halong Bay, Sapa, Da Lat ,you are going to know some more about Viet Nam basing on a short brochure

ACTIVITY 1: Read the following information about Viet Nam. Fill the gaps with the correct words or phrases in the box (7m)
Aim: Ss understand more about Viet Nam
Method: Work in pairs
 - Give the instruction and make sure that Ss understand it
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to read the advertisement for life skill courses in Teenage Magazine and answer the questions
- Call some Ss to copy the answers on the board and check with the whole class.
- Listen to the teacher and take notes if necessary.
- Do as appointed.

ACTIVITY 2: Read the extract from a short brochure introducing Viet Nam. Match the subheadings (1-5) with the paragraphs (a-e)
 (5 m)
Aims: Ss get structure of the brochure
Methods: Work in pairs
Ask Ss to read through the extract from a short brochure introducing Viet Nam
Ask Ss to focus their attention on how the points in Task 1 have been developed into sentences and paragraphs, and the informative language used in a brochure. 
Have Ss do the matching first individually, and then compare their answers with a partner. 
Check Ss’ answers as a class. 
Give explanations if necessary.

 Notes : Vovina ( Việt Võ Đạo : Martial Arts of Viet Nam) is a Vietnamese ,artial art.
ACTIVITY 3: Brochures are often used to inform people and include information text and the brochure above. Work with a partner and find examples of each feature.
 (5 m)
Aims: Ss get some information to writing
Methods: Work in groups
- Let Ss work in groups of 4, reading the problems and identifying their signs one by one. Have Ss find signal words such as: 
-	Check the answers with the class.
- Work in groups to do the task.
- Give the answers
- Give comments.
- Check and take notes
Sample answers:
a. The extract in task 2 consists of 5 paragraphs
b. Examples of impersonal language and present tense: covers a land area, is about, is Hanoi, speak Vietnamese 
c. There are 5 paragraphs and each one focuses on a different topic and has a heading summarizing the topic
d. Important information is highlighted: land area, population, agricultural exporter .
ACTIVITY 4: Writing Write a short brochure (160-180words) introducing an ASEAN country. Use the information about Indonesia below or a different ASEAN country of your choice. (15 m) 
Aims: Ss 
Methods: Work in pairs and then individually
- Explain to Ss that now they should do
- Have Ss work in pairs and write a brochure 
- Move around to give help with vocabulary and structure if necessary.
- T uses “lucky pairs” game to choose two Ss copy their answer on the sub - board for checking.
- Then Ss write the letter individually
-Ss to read the sample brochure in 2 and the information text features in 3 again.
- Ss go through the points about Indonesia in pairs.
 Ss write a short text using the information given 
 Ss finish their drafts, ask them to exchange the drafts with a partner for peer review. 
ACTIVITY 5: (7 m) 
Aims: Ss check the mistake
Methods: Work in pairs/ whole class
- When Ss have finished, asks Ss to hang on the sub= board on the board and check the mistakes with the whole class
- Tell the class to read together and give corrections if necessary.
- Peer correction
3. Consolidation and homework 
a. Consolidation: (2m)
- Teacher summaries main points of the lesson
- Students listen and add some more points
b. Homework: (1m)
- Do the task again	
- Prepare the next lesson at home.
