I. OBJECTIVE:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Understand differences in opinions and preferences, and related conflicts between teenagers and parents

- Express their opinions and advice on how to solve the problems between them

 - Understand more about the conflicts between parents and teenage and they may know the way to avoid them.

2. Skills: Develop listening’s skills

- Main skill: + Listen to a programme about the roles of family members.

 + Listen for general ideas.

 + Listen the monologue and do exercises.

3. Attitude:

 - Serious, positive, proactive, independent to take part in group activities.

 - Showing passion & excitement in studying

 - Cultivate morality, love people, and love their homeland

4. Competence:

- Self-study ability

- Problem-solving ability

- Presentation capacity and reporting

UNIT 1: THE GENERATION GAP
PERIOD 6: LESSON 5: LISTENING
I. OBJECTIVE:
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 
- Understand differences in opinions and preferences, and related conflicts between teenagers and parents
- Express their opinions and advice on how to solve the problems between them
 - Understand more about the conflicts between parents and teenage and they may know the way to avoid them.
2. Skills: Develop listening’s skills
- Main skill: 	+ Listen to a programme about the roles of family members. 
	+ Listen for general ideas.
 	 + Listen the monologue and do exercises.
3. Attitude:

II. MATERIAL NEEDED
1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, cassette player, disc.
2. Students: Students’ books, learning tools, drafting paper and/or extra board, marker
III. PROCEDURE: 
1. Warmup: (3m)
Goal: Lead sts into the topic of the lesson
Tasks: Teacher explain and guide
Method: Whole class.
- Ask sts to look at the photos of the two teenagers, and think about what problems they may have. 
- Tell them to focus on hobbies (Photo a) and fashion (Photo b) and elicit Ss' opinions. 
- Have sts talk about what the parents of these teenagers might complain about. 
Suggested answer: 
+ Playing computer games too much
+ Having uncommon hairstyles, clothes 
Lead in: Today we are going to listen to Tom and Linda discussing their conflicts with their parents.

ACTIVITY 1: Guessing (5m)
Aim: Sts can guess the general idea from picture.
Method: Work individually
- Ask sts to work individually to choose what they think will mention in the conversation between Tom and Linda.
- Call on some sts to give their answers.
- Feedback

- Give the answers.
- Check and take notes.

ACTIVITY 2: Vocabulary (10 m)
Aims: Sts get more words to understand the listening tape.
Methods: Work individually and in pairs.
- Introduce new vocabulary; conduct choral repetition of the words; elicit words’ meanings

- sparkling(adj) /'spɑ:kliɳ/
- stuff (n) chất liệu , món, thứ →casual stuff
- flashy (adj) /'flæʃi/: lòe loẹt, thích chưng diện → flashy clothes
- elegant (adj)	/'eligənt: lịch sự, tao nhã
- forbid/fə'bid/ = ban= prohibit
- concentrate on (v) = focus on
- Shiny (adj) /'ʃaini/: sáng bóng
- Tell sts to match the words with their definitions. These words will be heard in the conversation. 
- Have sts compare their answers with a partner.
- Call on 3 sts to write their answers on board.
- Ask other to give comments.

ACTIVITY 3: Listening and decide whether the statements are true or false (10m)
Aims: Sts develop “listening to specific information” skills.
Methods: Work individually and in pairs.
- Tell sts that they are going to listen to the conversation between Tom and Linda and decide whether the statements are True (T) or False (F).
- Have sts make guesses first. Encourage all possible answers and explanations. Write their guesses on the board so they can see if the guesses are correct later.
- Play the recording for sts to listen.
- Check sts' answers. If many students have the same incorrect answers, play the recording again, pausing at the places where sts might have got the incorrect answers and discuss the problems
- Listen to the teacher.
- Guess the answers.
- Listen and do the task.
- Compare the answers with a partner.
- Give the answers.
- Check and take notes when teacher feedback.

ACTIVITY 4: Listen and choose the best answer. (10 m) 
Aims: Sts can listen to specific information and inference
Methods: Work in groups of 4
- Call on a st to remind the strategy to do this kind of exercise. Add more if necessary.
- Ask students to work in groups of 4 to listen to the conversation again, and do a multiple choice exercise.
- Checks answers as a class.
- Remind the way to do this kind of task.
- Do the task in groups of 4.

ACTIVITY 5: Discussing (5m) 
Aims: Sts can give some of the idea from the listening conversation.
Methods: Work in pairs
- Have sts work in pairs to ask and answer the questions.
Do your parents like the way you dress? Why or why not?
What do you think about computer games? Do you parents share your viewpoints?
- Encourage them to share their experiences with their partner who is expected to give advice or express opinions.
- Feedback
- Work in pairs to ask and answer.
- Share their talk with the whole class.
- Check and take notes if necessary when teacher feedback.
