1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Pronounce contracted forms correctly.

- Use linking verbs to describe or identify the subject, and use cleft sentences for emphasis.

2. Skills: Develop the listening, reading and speaking skills

3. Attitude:

 - Serious, positive, proactive, independent to take part in group activities.

 - Showing passion & excitement in studying

 - Cultivate morality, love people, and love their homeland

4. Competence:

- Self-study ability

- Problem-solving ability

- Presentation capacity and reporting

II. MATERIAL NEEDED

1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, cassette player, disc.

2. Students: Students’ books, learning tools, drafting paper and/or extra board, marker

III. PROCEDURE:

1. Warmup: (5m)

Goal: Check out sts’ learning new words

Tasks: Sts write down the new words which have learned last lesson

Method: Individually

- Call on 2 sts to write down the new words which have learned last lesson on the boards

- Ask other to give comments.

- Feedback

- Lead in the lesson

UNIT 2: RELATIONSHIPS

I. OBJECTIVE:

Aim: Sts know and practice vocabulary through exercises.
Method: Work in pairs and work with the whole class.
Task 1 (4m)
- Ask sts work in pairs to match the given words with their meaning.

Task 2: (4m)
- Ask sts to complete the sentences with the words in task 1.
- Have sts work individually first. Then ask them to work in pairs, and compare their answers.

ACTIVITY 2: PRONUNCIATION
Aims: Know the way to read contracted forms in a conversation.
Methods: Work with whole class
Task 1 (5m)
- Ask sts to read the conversation in Getting started again to find out the contracted forms in this conversation and write down their full form.
- Call on some sts to give their answers.
- Check and feedback.
- Explain some rules:
a. Noun/pronoun etc + verb
- “’s” = is/has: use after noun, pronoun, question words, here, there
- “’d” = had/would, “’ll” = will, “’re” = are: use after pronouns, some question words, short nouns and there.
- Full form is used at the end of a clause or when the speaker wants to emphasize some information, hence the primary stress on the full form.
b. Verbs + not:
- There are two possible contractions for negative expression: she’s not or she isn’t .
- Negative contractions can be used at the end of a clause.
Task 2: (2m)
- Ask sts to listen and underline the contractions or the full form in the exchanges. 
- Call on some sts to give their answers.
- Ask others to give comments.
- Feedback.
Task 3: (3m)
- Ask sts to listen again and practice reading the short exchanges.
- Find out the contracted forms in this conversation and write down their full form.
- Give the answers.

LINKING VERBS
Aims: sts know the use of linking verb
Methods: Work individually and then in pairs
Task 1: (5m)
- Explain sts that linking verbs are used to describe or identify the subjects of the verbs.
Form: Linking verbs + adj/nouns
- Ask sts to work individually to do the task.
- Ask sts to exchange their answers
- Call on some sts to give their answers.
- Feedback
- Ask sts to read the part: “Do you know ?”
Task 2: (5m)
- Ask sts to read the sentence carefully and identify the linking verbs to choose the right answers.
- Explain sts that some verbs (appear, look, taste, smell, sound, feel) can refer to an action (= action verbs) and be following by an adverb.
- Call on some sts to give their answers.
- Ask other to give comments.

CLEFT SENTENCES
Aims: sts know the use of linking verb
Methods: Work in pairs
Task 1: (5m)
- Explain sts that cleft sentences are used to emphasize a particular part of a sentence. It is is used when the main verb is in the present and future tense, and it was is used when the main verb is in the past tense.
- Ask sts to work in pairs to do the task.
- Call on some sts to give their answers.
- Feedback
Notes: In cleft sentence that is commonly used after the focus. When the focus is on a person, “who” can be used in a more formal style.
Task 2: (5m)
- Ask sts to work in pairs to do the task and then practice asking and answering the questions and answers.
- Call on some pairs to read out their answers.
