UNIT 2: RELATIONSHIPS
PERIOD 12: LESSON 3: READING
I. OBJECTIVE:
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 
- Understand word meaning in context and understand references.
2. Skills: Develop reading’s skills
- To promote Ss to develop their reading skills 
- Skim the text to get the general idea 
- Scan the text to get some specific details
3. Attitude: 
	- Serious, positive, proactive, independent to take part in group activities.
	- Showing passion & excitement in studying
	- Cultivate morality, love people, and love their homeland
4. Competence: 
- Self-study ability
- Problem-solving ability
- Presentation capacity and reporting
II. MATERIAL NEEDED
1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, cassette player, disc.
2. Students: Students’ books, learning tools, drafting paper and/or extra board, marker
III. PROCEDURE: 
1. Warmup: (5m)
Goal: Lead sts into the topic of the lesson
Tasks: T informs Ss of the lesson objectives
Method: Whole class.
- T informs Ss of the lesson objectives
- Ss listen to teacher and look at their books 
- Inform Ss of the lesson objectives: skimming and scanning a text for main ideas and specific information.

ACTIVITY 1: Discussing (5m)
Aim: Sts brainstorm about relationships problems at school or at home 
Method: Work in pairs
 - Introduce the pictures & ask sts to discuss the 2 questions in activity 1 – page 22
- Call on some pairs to speak out their answers.
- Ask other to give comments
- Feedback
- Look at the pictures and discuss the 2 questions in activity 1 – page 22

1. Picture a: The teacher is returning students' papers. The boy is depressed because of his poor grades.

ACTIVITY 2: Pre-teaching vocabulary (8m)
Aims: Sts get more words to understand the reading text
Methods: Work individually

- Read the above words out loud and has students repeat in chorus 2 times
- Call on some sts to read individually.
- Ask sts to learn by heart the new words at home

ACTIVITY 3: Reading and matching (7m)
Aims: Sts skim the passage to get main ideas
Methods: Work individually and then in pairs
- Tell sts that they are going to read an advice column in a newspaper including readers’ questions and counselor’s replies.
- Ask ss to read the Qs in task 2 and replies quickly and find the main ideas.
- Have Ss choose the best summary of each reader’s problem.

- Read the passage and then do the task.

ACTIVITY 4: Task 3 – Finding the words to match with their meaning (8m) 
Aims: Sts get more words related to the topic
Methods: Work in pairs
- Ask sts to read the five definitions in task 3. Ask them to find the words or expressions in the text to match these definitions.
- Has Ss work in pairs to compare their answers.
- Checks Ss' answers as a class.
- Feedback

- Compare the answers with a partner.

ACTIVITY 5: Task 4 – Answering the questions (10m) 
Aims: Sts scan to get specific information to answer the questions
Methods: Work in groups
- Ask sts to work in groups of 4 to do the task.
- Call on some representatives to give their groups’ answers and give out the clues in the passage.
- Ask others to give comments.
- Feedback
- Do as apointed.
- Check and take notes
