I. OBJECTIVE:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Useful language used in writing a letter requesting information

- Write a letter asking for further information about a course.

2. Skills:

- Develop writing’s skills

- Help sts develop the skill of working in pairs and groups

3. Attitude:

 - Serious, positive, proactive, independent to take part in group activities.

 - Showing passion & excitement in studying

 - Cultivate morality, love people, and love their homeland

4. Competence:

- Self-study ability

- Problem-solving ability

- Presentation capacity and reporting

II. MATERIAL NEEDED

1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, cassette player, disc.

2. Students: Students’ books, learning tools, drafting paper and/or extra board, marker

III. PROCEDURE:

1. Warmup: (3m)

Goal: Lead in the lesson

Tasks: Listing

Method: Work in groups

- Ask sts to work in groups and list all the ways they often use to get information about courses in life skills.

Suggested answer: emails, websites, phone calls, letters,

 - Feedback

 - Lead into the lesson: Today we are going to study the way to write a request letter

UNIT 3: BECOMING INDEPENDENT 
PERIOD 26: LESSON 6: WRITING
I. OBJECTIVE:
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 
- Useful language used in writing a letter requesting information
- Write a letter asking for further information about a course.
2. Skills:

- Help sts develop the skill of working in pairs and groups

ACTIVITY 1: Answering the qustions (7m)
Aim: Sts understand the advertisements
Method: Work in pairs
 - Give the instruction and make sure that sts understand it
- Ask sts to work in pairs to read the advertisement for life skill courses in Teenage Magazine and answer the questions
- Call some sts to copy the answers on the board and check with the whole class.
- Listen to the teacher and take notes if necessary.
- Do as appointed.

3. The skills to overcome the feeling of loneliness.

ACTIVITY 2: Putting the parts in order to make a full letter (5 m)
Aims: Sts get structure of the letter
Methods: Work in pairs
- Have sts work in pairs, read the parts in the template on page 32 then reorder the jumbled sentences, basing on this template. 
- T calls on some sts to read aloud the answers and check with the whole class.
- Do as appointed

ACTIVITY 3: Matching the problem with its sign (5 m)
Aims: Sts get some information to writing
Methods: Work in groups
- Let sts work in groups of 4, reading the problems and identifying their signs one by one. Have sts find signal words such as: 
+ Lacking time management skills: prioritise, schedule, 
+ Suffering from stress: memory problems, can’t sleep, 
+ Lacking interpersonal communication skills: communicating ideas, talking to people, 
-	Check the answers with the class.
- Work in groups to do the task.
- Give the answers
- Give comments.
- Check and take notes

ACTIVITY 4: Writing (15 m) 
Aims: Sts 
Methods: Work in pairs and then individually
- Explain to sts that now they should pretend that they have one of the problems (in activity 3), and need to take a course to overcome their problem. 
- Have sts work in pairs and write a letter asking for further information about the course they need to take. Remind them to include two following parts in the letter: Giving background information and Requesting further information.	
- Move around to give help with vocabulary and structure if necessary.
- T uses “lucky pairs” game to choose two sts copy their answer on the sub - board for checking.
- Then sts write the letter individually
- Imagine that you have one of the problems above. Write a letter similar to the one in 2 to Ms Brown for advice on a suitable course and get further information about:
- course duration
- lecturer/ trainer
- starting date
- certificate 
ACTIVITY 5: (7 m) 
Aims: Sts 
Methods: Work in 
- When sts have finished, asks sts to hang on the sub= board on the board and check the mistakes with the whole class
- Tell the class to read together and give corrections if necessary.
- Peer correction
3. Consolidation and homework 
a. Consolidation: (2m)
- Teacher summaries main points of the lesson
- Students listen and add some more points
b. Homework: (1m)
- Do the task again	
- Prepare the next lesson at home.
