I. OBJECTIVE:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- talk about Singapore Scholarships and ASEAN Scholarships

- read and speak about Lamvong- a traditional Lao dance.

2. Skills:

- Develop reading, listening and speaking’s skills

- Help Ss develop the skill of working in pairs and groups

3. Attitude:

 - respect ASEAN countries and their diverse cultures

 - Serious, positive, proactive, independent to take part in group activities.

 - Showing passion & excitement in studying

 - Cultivate morality, love people, and love their homeland

4. Competence:

- Self-study ability

- Problem-solving ability

- Presentation capacity and reporting

II. MATERIAL NEEDED

1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, cassette player, disc.

2. Students: Students’ books, learning tools, drafting paper and/or extra board, marker

III. PROCEDURE:

1. Warmup: (3m)

Goal: Lead in the lesson

Tasks: Teacher inform Ss about the lesson’s objectives

Method: Work with the whole class

UNIT 5: BEING PART OF ASEAN
PERIOD 48: LESSON 7: COMMUNICATION AND CULTURE
I. OBJECTIVE:
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 
- talk about Singapore Scholarships and ASEAN Scholarships
- read and speak about Lamvong- a traditional Lao dance.
2. Skills:
- Develop reading, listening and speaking’s skills
- Help Ss develop the skill of working in pairs and groups

Singapore Scholarships and ASEAN Scholarships
ACTIVITY 1: Read the school notice about the Singapore Scholarships and ASEAN Scholarships. Use the words or phrases to fill the gaps.(10m)
Aim: Ss understand about the Singapore Scholarships and ASEAN 
Method: Work individually and then in pairs
 Explain to Ss that they need to read the information about 2 kinds of Singapore –sponsored scholarships. 
Ask them to distinguish between the Singapore Scholarships Have Ss work first individually, and then check their answers in front of the class.
Let Ss compare their answers with a partner, then check answers as a class and write them on the board.
- Listen to the teacher and take notes if necessary.
- Read the question and underline the key words.
- Listen and to fill the gaps.
- Compare the answers with a partner.
- Give the answers.
- Check and take notes.

ACTIVITY 2: Create a list of FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about the Singapore Scholarships and the ASEAN Scholarships in Task 1. Work with a partner to think of as many questions as you can. Then ask each other the questions 
 (7 m)
Aims: Ss give their opinions about the Singapore Scholarships and the ASEAN Scholarships 
Methods: Work in pairs
-Have Ss read the instructions and suggested words/ phrases carefully.
-Ask Ss to work in groups of 4 to brain storm ideas and prepare a proposal for a new campaign to support disabled people. 
-Ask some groups to present their campaigns.
Praise Ss for original and interesting ideas, and good presentation skills.

CULTURE
ACTIVITY 1: Ss watch a video clip about Lamvong Lao 
(youtube- SARAVAN LAMVONG or FONE LAMVONG) (7 m)
Aims: Ss get knowledge about Lamvong- a traditional Lao dance
Methods: Work in pairs
Ask Ss to watch a video clip about Lamvong Lao 
(youtube- SARAVAN LAMVONG or FONE 
LAMVONG) 
Ask Ss to look at the picture of Lamvong
Ask Ss: Do you know anything about this dance?
Invite individual Ss to present their ideas.
- Work in pairs
* Suggested answers: They are dancing Lamvong. This is a traditional Lao folk dance.
ACTIVITY 2: Read the text about Lamvong and decide whether the following statements are True (T) or False (F), or not given (NG). Tick the correct boxes. (10 m) 
Aims: Ss practice reading skills 
Methods: Work individually and then in pairs
- Ask Ss to read the text again to decide whether the statements are true, false or not given.
- Have Ss compare their answers with a partner.
- Call on some Ss to give their answers

ACTIVITY 3: (6 m) Talk with a partner about one of the popular folk dances of Viet Nam or any other ASEAN country. Use the following questions:
Aims: Ss understand about trongcom (a Vietnamese traditional dance)
Methods: Work in groups
- Show the music or video clip of trongcom (a Vietnamese traditional dance) and Rasa Sayang (a Malay folk song popular )

- Have Ss work in groups of 4 or 5 and talk about one popular folk dance.
Invite representatives of different groups to show their dance to the class. 
- Ask Ss to work in groups, discuss the question.
