- respect ASEAN countries and their diverse cultures
- Serious, positive, proactive, independent to take part in group activities.
- Showing passion & excitement in studying
- Cultivate morality, love people, and love their homeland
4. Competence:
- Self-study ability
- Problem-solving ability
- Presentation capacity and reporting

Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - know more specific information about ASEAN 2. Skills: Develop reading’s skills - To promote Ss to develop their reading skills - Skim the text to get the general idea - Scan the text to get some specific details 3. Attitude: - respect ASEAN countries and their diverse cultures - Serious, positive, proactive, independent to take part in group activities. - Showing passion & excitement in studying - Cultivate morality, love people, and love their homeland 4. Competence: - Self-study ability - Problem-solving ability - Presentation capacity and reporting II. MATERIAL NEEDED 1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, cassette player, disc. 2. Students: Students’ books, learning tools, drafting paper and/or extra board, marker III. PROCEDURE: 1. Warmup: (5m) Goal: Lead Ss into the topic of the lesson Tasks: Ask and answers Method: Whole class. Ask Ss to work in pairs to name the countries basing on their national flags. The first pair to give the correct answers is the winner * Key: 1. Brunei Darussalam, 2. Cambodia, 3. Indonesia, 4. Laos, 5. Singapore, 6. Malaysia , 7. Myanmar, 8. The Philippines, 9. Singapore, 10. Viet Nam Lead in the lesson. 2. Contents: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities ACTIVITY 1: Brainstorming and vocabulary (10 m) Aim: Sts brainstorm about the topic and get some vocabulary. Method: Work in pairs and in the whole class - Ask Ss to work in pairs to ask and answer the 3 questions. - Call on some Ss to give their answers. - Ask others to give comments. - Feedback * Pre-teach vocabulary: + bloc [blɔk] : (chính trị) khối (Eg: left-wing parties bloc: khối các đảng phái tả) + motto ['mɔtouz] (n) : khẩu hiệu; phương châm + integrate : hoà nhập, hội nhập - Introduces new vocabulary; conduct choral repetition of the words; elicits words’ meanings. - Ask Ss to read the words in chorus and individually. - Do as appointed Sometimes, I forget to do my homework or have to struggle to meet deadlines. I make plans to manage my time - Listen and take notes the new words. - Read the new words in chorus and individually ACTIVITY 2: The following text has five paragraphs. read it first and then match the headings (1-5) with the paragraphs (A-E) (5 m) Aims: Ss Methods: Work in - Give the instruction: Read the text and select the statement that expresses its main idea - Ask Ss to read the four statement A, B, C, D first and make sure they understand all of them - Ask Ss to read through the text once without stopping at the words that they don't know the meaning - Ask Ss to work in pairs to decide on the main idea of the whole text - Help them eliminate the choice that is only one aspect of the text. - Call on Ss to give his/her answer. - Feedback - Listen and take notes. - Read the statements to understand them clearly . - Do the task in pairs - Give the answer. - Give comments. - Check and take notes 1. E 2. C 3. D 4. B 5. A ACTIVITY 3: Find the words or expressions in the text that have the following meanings. Write them in the correct spaces (7m) Aims: Ss get specific information through writing the words in the text in the correct spaces. Methods: Work in pairs - Give the instruction: Read the text again. Inform the Ss that the activity is for skimming only (to write the words/ expression) in the text in the correct spaces - Ask Ss to work in pairs and do the task. - Call on some Ss to give theirs answers. - Ask others to give comments. - Feedback -Ss work individually, and then compare their answers with a partner. Key: 1. the ASEAN Charter, 2. non-interference 3. motto, 4. respect ACTIVITY 4: Answering the question (8m) Aims: Ss get more specific information Methods: Work in groups - Give the instructions and then ask Ss to review the way to do this kind of task. - Put Ss in groups of 3, ask them to read the questions first to make sure they understand them by asking them to underline key words - Let Ss read the text again and locate the parts of the text where they can get the answers. - Call on some Ss to give theirs answers. - Ask others to give comments. - Feedback - Do as appointed 1. They were Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand 2. Brunei became the 6th member in 1984, VietNam became the 7th member in 1995. Laos and Myanmar joined the bloc in 1997 and Cambodia joined 2 years later. 3. It has a land area of 4.46 million km2 and a population of about 600 million people . (ASEAN would rank as the 8th largest economy in the world if it were a single country. 4. They are Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Viet Nam. 5. It is “ One vision, One identity, One Community” 6. They are respect for the member state’s independence and non-interference in their internal affairs. 7. It organises different projects and activities, including educational awards, and various cultural and sport activities. ACTIVITY 5: Discussing (7m) Aims: Ss practice talking about the topic Methods: Work in groups - Arrange Ss into groups and set a time limit. Walk around to monitor the class and offer help if necessary. Allow enough time for one or two groups to demonstrate the activity in front of the class - Call on some Ss to report their result of discussing. - Ask others to give comments. - Feedback - Discuss and then report it. (Ss answer freely) 3. Consolidation and homework a. Consolidation: (2m) - Teacher summaries main points of the lesson - Students listen and add some more points b. Homework: (1m) - Do the task again - Prepare the next lesson at home.
