IV. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES
STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES
Class organization (1 minnutes)
T begins the class with some common greetings by saying:
“Good morning, class. How are you keeping today?”
T checks the attendance:
“The monitor, who is absent today?”
Ss greet T by answering T’questions
Total:
Absence:
Check up:
No
New lesson:
Warm up (5 minutes):
T gives some pictures about sources of energy:
Ask Ss to guess the name of pictures
Petroleum 3. Coal
Gas 4. Hydroelectricity
T leads in the new lesson:
“Today, we will learn writing about Sources of energy through compare and describe information in the bar chart”.
Unit 11: SOURCES OF ENERGY
Writing
Ss pay attention
Ss do the T’s require
Listen to the teacher
Pre – Writing (7 minutes):
Gives and explains new words.
“I will give you some newwords which you need to know before the new lesson.”
1, total [ˈtəʊtl] (adj): hoàn toàn, toàn bộ
2, consumption [kən'sʌmpʃn] (n):
sự tiêu thụ, tiêu dùng
3, hydroelectricity [ˌhaɪdrəʊɪˌlekˈtrɪsəti] (n):
 thủy điện
T reads the new words twice and asks Ss to repeat.
T calls 1 or 2 Ss to read out loud
Helps Ss to correct their pronunciation (if needed)
Listen to the teacher
Listen and repeat affter the teacher
Read out loud new words
While – Writing (28 minutes):
Task 1: Study the chart about energy consumption in Highland in 2000 and fill in the gaps with the information from the chart.
T calls 1 Ss to read the requirement of Task 1.
Explains the requirement of Task 1.
Explains the bar chart and how to do the task:
+ Look at the bar chart, we can see the green color show ‘Coal’, orange show ‘Nuclear & Hydroelectricity’ and purple show the ‘Petroleum’. And the vertical axis show ‘Million tons’
+ Next, read the text carefully and underline the keywords. Then find out the answers
+ Now, work in pairs to do this task.
T calls some Ss go to the board to give answers.
T checks, gives feedbacks and correct the answers.
Key:
1. 117
2. coal
3. smallest
Task 2: Use the information in the following chart (about energy consumption in Highland in 2005) to fill the gaps.
T asks Ss to read the requirement of the task.
T asks Ss to describe the trends in energy consumption in 2005 from the chart.
Ask Ss to work in pairs and fill in the gaps in the sample:
The total energy consumption in 2005 was (1)________ million tons. Nuclear and Hydroelectricity made up the (2) _______ amount of energy consumption, about (3)_______million tons. (4)__________ made up as much used as coal, but it is not so much as nuclear and hydroelectricity. The smallest amount of energy consumption is (5)________ (45 million tons).
Call on some pairs to present
Give feedback
* Key: 1. 170
2. largest
3. 75
4. petroleum
5. coal
Task 3: Describe the chart, using the information from Task 1 and 2.
T gives the form to describe the chart:
Introduction: introduce the chart
+Name of the chart + place + date:
+The chart shows ..in + place + date.
Body: Make a comparison between the energy consumption in Highland in 2000 and that in 2005
 the total energy consumption was
..made up the largest amount of this feature
+ It was followed by
+ .made up the smallest
+ ... consumption was + feature
Less . than
More than
Conclusion: Give the general comment to the description
Eg: +in conclusion, the energy consumption in Highland in 2000 is less than that in 2005
-give some linking words:
Whereas: trong khi
However= Nevertheless: tuy nhiên
Moreover= Furthermore: hơn nữa/ ngoài ra
-give useful languages:
The chart shows/ describes : lược đồ cho thấy
As can be seen, .: có thể thấy rằng
This was followed by the consumption of .: tiếp theo là mức tiêu thụ của
made up the largest amount of .: chiếm số lượng lớn nhất là
- Ask Ss to pay attention and take note
- Ask Ss to work in groups to rewrite the sentences to describe the chart
1. chart / show / energy consumption / Highland /2000 / 2005.
2. total / energy consumption / 2005 / be / 170 million tons.
3. 2005 / nuclear and hydroelectricity/ make / large/ amount /this figure /(75 million tons).
4. This / follow/ the / consumption / petroleum /(50 million tons).
5. Both / of / them / be/ high / than /they / be / 2000.
- Invite some groups’ representatives to write down on the board.
- Give feedback and make comments.
Read the requirement
Listen to the teacher
Read, find out the answers
Work in pairs to do the task

*Suggested answers:
1. The chart shows the energy consumption in Highland from 2000 to 2005.
2. The total energy consumption in 2005 was 170 million tons.
3. In 2005, nuclear and hydroelectricity made up the largest amount of this figure (75 million tons).
4. This was followed by the consumption of petroleum (50 million tons).
5. Both of them were higher than they were in 2000.
- Some groups’ representatives to write down on the board.
Post – writing: (3 minutes)
